Effects of prenatal exposure to 900 MHZ electromagneti̇c fi̇eld on li̇ver rats

Abstract (EN)

In this study, the livers of rats born to mothers exposed to electromagnetic field (EMF) after 60 days were examined both biochemical and histopathological. Early in the study, the pregnant rats divided into two groups: I. Control group, II: EMF group. The generatör of the ER device was placed under the cage centrally. While the EMF group were exposed to 900 MHz EMF for 20 days / 24 hours, control group weren't exposed to 900 MHz EMF. The study was continued with rat pups obtained from the pregnant rats. 7 male - 7 female rat pups obtained from control group and 7 male - 7 female rat pups obtained from EMF group. After birth, no procedure was performed on rat pups. After 60 days from birth, under anesthesia liver tissues and bloods obtained from rat pups were used for biochemical and histopathological analyses. According to biochemical results, there were significantly increased serum levels of ALT and AST (p<0,05). While liver tissue levels of MDA significantly were increased (p<0,05), GSH were significantly decreased (p<0,01). Histopathological changes were detected in the liver tissues. Rats of the EMF groups were observed intense degeneration in hepatocytes, eosinophilic cytoplasm structures, pyknotic nucleated cells, fibrosis and degeneration cells. In conclusion, we demonstrate that the intrauterin harmful effects of EMF on the livers of rats persist into adulthood.
