Abstract (EN)

AİM: Truncal vagotomy is usually performed as required during operations in gastric cancer and morbid obesity. In these patients small bowel anastomoses is applied after gastric resection. This anastomotic wound healing is the most important factor affecting the outcome of post-operative period. Nervus vagus is the main parasympathetic system for the abdominal organs. The sympathetic system is dominated by the abdomen after vagotomy and gastrointestinal tract organs physiology run completely based on sympathetic nervous system. Possible impact on anastomotic healing of this condition are not known to investigate the effect on the healing of anastomosis. In this experiment we have tried the effects of truncal vagotomy on the model of small bowel anastomotic healing on wistar rats.MATERİAL AND METHOD: Forty male Wistar albino rats were divided into five groups each were 8 subjects. Group I control group is only performed the small intestine anastomosis were sacrificed 0 th Days. Group II after small bowel anastomosis were sacrified at 4 th day. Group III after small bowel anastmosis with the vagotomy were sacrificed at 4 th day. Group IV only the small bowel anastomosis were sacrificed at 7 th day. Group V the small bowel anastomosis was performed with the vagotomy were sacrificed at 7 th day. In all groups anastomotic healing was evaluated by means of bursting pressure and tissue hydroxyproline level.RESULTS: At 4 th day compared with the vagotomy and without vagotomy anastomosis groups, the hydroxyproline levels in the vagotomy group were not statistically significant (p>0,05), bursting pressures were significantly higher in the vagotomy group (p<0,05). On the seventh day of bursting pressure and hydroxyproline levels were significantly higher in the vagotomy group (p<0,05).CONCLUSION: In this study, a positive effect which improves small bowel anastomotic healing was determined that in rats with vagotomy. Although in this study, we did not studied the detailed effect of vagotomy on healing mechanisms in surgery but, as long as applications of vagotomy and anastomosis seems to be deserve a better understanding studies.Key Words: Vagotomy, Anastomosis, small intestine, Wound healing
