Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to produce catalysts with different metal nanoparticle materials to be used in the ethanol-selective catalytic reduction (SCR) systems and then to determine the nitrogen oxide (NOx) emission conversion performances of these catalysts. Firstly, two separate series of silver (Ag) based catalysts containing cerium (Ce) and copper (Cu) were produced, and then their structural properties were detected by SEM, XRD, and BET analyses. Finally, tests for NOx conversion efficiencies were performed on the SCR performance test system. Test conditions were determined as a temperature range of 200 ℃ to 300 ℃, the constant space velocity of 40000 h-1, and 4 different engine loads (1 kW, 2 kW, 3 kW, and 4 kW). The emission gas used in the tests was the actual emission gas originating from a 2-cylinder V-type diesel engine with a constant engine speed of 3000 rpm. Depending on the increment in the exhaust gas temperature from 200 ℃ to 300 ℃, the NOx conversion efficiencies of all catalysts improved. As a consequence of the tests, the best activity was obtained as NOx conversion efficiency of 92.48% at 300 ℃ at 4 kW engine load over the 5A5CT catalyst. Ce additive played a promotive role in the NOx reduction performance of Ag based catalyst. However, Cu doped catalysts achieved a lower NOx conversion rate than the 4AT catalyst without Cu. Cu additive did not provide an improvement in the NOx reduction performance of Ag based catalysts.
