A research on the role of election promises on the political behavior of youth

Political behavior is the set of actions that reflect the status, attitudes and orientations of individuals in the political field. Individuals are affected by many factors while exhibiting their political behavior practices. One of the factors that play an active role in individuals' political behavior practices is election promises. In this context, the aim of the research is to determine the factors affecting political behavior and to reveal which promise category plays a more effective role on the political behavior practices of voters by categorizing the election promises among these factors. The research was structured based on the "screening research" pattern. The results of the research revealed that the political interest levels of the individuals were above the average, that they were interested in politics since their high school years and that they had a benefit-centered (rational preference approach) approach. It has been observed that political factors, which are among the factors affecting political behavior, play the most effective role on individuals' political behavior practices. It has been revealed that the political factor that plays the most effective role on individuals' political behavior practices is election promises. It has been determined that the importance given to categorical election promises varies according to the socio-demographic characteristics and political tendencies of individuals. It has been revealed that the fact that election promises are realistic and feasible is the most important factor that makes election promises reliable for individuals. It has been determined that election promises play an active role in changing the political party in which individuals vote. It was revealed that the voting opinions of the individuals occurred during the election campaign process when the election promises were announced. It has been observed that the information/messages about election promises are mostly obtained from new media channels, but the level of trust in these areas is low.
