The communication between choir and choir conductor according to the perception of choir`s members

Subject of this research is the connection between choir conductor and choir members. There are considered questions of social and educational aspects of choir, necessary skills and manner of choir `conductor?s behaviour, advantage of choir work and the role of lieder position of choir conductor. It is taken attention for the value of choir`s members.This research is based on test of 97 choirs with 3000 choir members which participate in the Fourteenth Choir Festival held in Ankara, Turkey. There are selected nine choirs with 331 choir members, awarded by the festival committee.The data were collected through a Chorus Member Director Evaluation Questionnaire consisting two parts and having 48 questions. It was developed by the researcher with the help and supervision of expert in this area. The data were analysed in terms of %, mean, and significant difference (t test).The results revealed significant differences between the perceptions on the current status and ideal one when sex was considered. The differences between the current status and the ones considered to be in an ideal conductor were resulted from the following perceptions; communicate with members by eye contact, mimics, gestures and body language, enthusiastically inspiration, artistic behaviours, preparing the members physically and psychologically, conducting sufficient and accurate voice practice, exercising fairness among the members, considering intonation and articulation, leading, controlling and imposing disciplinary authority, raising team spirit among the members, dressing carefully. On the other hand, no significant difference was found between the current and ideal director when posturing aesthetically or artistically during performance, using specific signs, and coming to the rehearsal practice on time and prepared.Results of Test Form for Value of choir conductorKey Words: Choir, Choir members, Choir Conductor, Conducting, Management, Communication.
