Shahfur b. Tahir al-Isferayini and his method in his Persian tafsir "Taj al Terajeem fi Tafseer al-Qur'an li al-E'ajeem"

The Qur'an, which guides humanity to salvation, has been interpreted by many scholars, especially the Prophet Muhammad since it was sent. Islamic scholars wrote Tafseers in different languages to convey the messages contained in the Qur'an to large masses of people. Shahfur b. Tahir al-Isferayini is also one of the Mufasseers (commentators) who lived in the Isferayin and Tus regions of Nishabur during the political and intellectual turmoil of the fifth century. Al-Isferayini wrote his "Taj al Terajeem fi Tafseer al-Qur'an li al-E'ajeem" in Persian, which is one of the firsts in the history of tafseer in some aspects, taking into account the language and cultural level of the society. However, this tafseer did not receive as much attention as the first-period tafseer written in Arabic. Even today, the studies on this work have been limited to the introduction of articles and books. Therefore, it is important to examine Taj al Terajeem in detail and in depth. This study, in which the qualitative model was used, tried to identify the author's interpretation style and method, analysing al-Isferâyini's tafseer "Taj al Terâjeem fi Tafseer al-Quran li al-E'ajeem" with a descriptive method in general. Based on the analysis of the data obtained, al-Isferayini also used some different methods depending on the purpose of writing his tafseer, although he was generally faithful to the previous tafseer tradition in some aspects. The Introduction part of the study gives some necessary information about the study such as the subject, purpose, scope and method of the study. It also deals with some of the characteristic aspects of the period in which al-Isferayini lived, which also have reflections on his scientific personality, his life and his sectarian attitude. The first chapter analyses the Qur'an, the understanding of tafsir, the sources of tafsir and similar ideas. The second chapter examines the wise explanations and methods in the interpretation of the Qur'an. Finally, the third chapter explores the method of tafseer in terms of narration.
