Sehmi's Divan investigation, text, index

The thesis is about Sehmi, one of the poets of seventeenth century and Sehmi?s divan. This study is composed of three parts. In the first part, the life of poet, his character and his literary personality have been explained with respect to the knowledge obtained from historical sources and tezkeres. In the second part, the characteristics of Sehmi?s divan?s shape and content have been examined. The verse styles, the rhyme and the redif characteristics with the language and the narration used, have been analyzed. The topics that are used by the poet in his poems have been given as content?s attributes. In the third part,the arrangement of the unique copy of the divan, which is present at Süleymaniye Library, had been made. Its orthographic characteristics have been examined. Also, the criteria that have been taken into consideration during the fixing of the text have been analyzed. Then the divan?s text has been explained. This study has been enden with an index in which all the words are present. Sehmi had been frequently used Arabic and Persian words his poems. Sometimes, he had also used archaic words, idioms and reduplications. He had been frequently used continuous noun phrases. It is encountered in his poems, the information about his life as well as the information related to his periods history. The divan mostly consisted of eulogies and lyric poems. KEY WORDS 1.
