Selami İzzet Sedes, his life, his literary character and his products

Selami İzzet SEDES is one of the writers of Turkish Literature of Republic Period. SEDES lived between 1896 and 1964, starts his career in 1917 with his poem "Son Gece" published in the magazine "Servet-i Fünûn". He starts his journalism life in Akşam newspaper in 1918, which will last for forty six years. SEDES, without belonging to any group or current, works at newspapers such as Akşam, Son Posta, Milliyet, Cumhuriyet, Vakit, Son Telgraf, İkdam, Ulus until his death in 1964. His various kinds of columns, conversations, criticisms and interviews are published in so-called newspapers. Moreover, his works are also published in the magazines of literature and humour such as Yeni Mecmua, Servet-i Fünûn, Fağfur, Aydede, Akbaba, Dolmuş. Although Selami İzzet is successful in writing both poems and prose, he takes the most attention with his prose writings. He has many novels, stories, theatre product, letters, poems and newspaper and humorous writings. In the introduction part of our work, we mentioned about the definition of popular literature, content of popular literature and works which are done related to popular literature; the beginning of popular literature in Turkey, names of people who can be assumed as popular litterateur and the place of Selami İzzet SEDES in the popular literature. In the first chapter of our thesis, life and literary personality of Selami İzzet SEDES takes place. And the second chapter is the one which we examined his novels; stories; literary and social criticisms; newspaper writings such as columns, conversations, and interviews; letters, poems, humour writings and his single theatre production. Our work ends with an appraisal and a general bibliography of his works in the third chapter.
