Woman as described in the stories of Selçuk Baran

Selçuk Baran who is one of the writers of modern Turkish literature and became popular in 1970?s has committed to paper stories seeking for sincerity, trying to research the truth by separating artificiality, with ideational load and having an anomalous place in our literature. She assesses various tides in the human relations having based on the approaches of the middle class intellectuals to the life who are living in the big cities - in Ankara in most of her stories-. In the stories she traces the loneliness and hopelessness / unhappiness in small details of the daily life.The female characters who remained at the forefront when looked at his works in a broad perspective draw attention with the fact of that they were fictionalized very similar to each other. The heroines of Baran are those whose all sorrows and regrets are scabbed over, who want to live alone in the crowd and think of that she can singly overcome her fears against life, who is scared of loneliness and take refuge in her shadow, explore her destiny,, try to escape from herself, want to live and feel that she is a human -when she understands that escape is not a remedy-, who believe (have believed) in that happiness does not exists over world, and who is unhappy on the contrary to the mood of June giving happiness, exhausted from living, and as pale as the savannah flower.In this thesis, the woman as described in the stories of Selçuk Baran was addressed. The social reflections of the women as in the stories of Baran were studied, and some issues such as reflecting the heroines by the writer, attributing functional and symbolic meanings to them, messages given through these women, active/passive roles taken by the heroines in the social change and transformation, none-acceptance of them their social identities, and whether there is an ideal woman type in the stories of the writer were discussed.
