Abstract (EN)

Malatya, which has a strategic position in Anatolia, is located in the eastern Anatolia Region. Malatya with its wide territory, had a strategic importance in the trade in Anatolia, Iran and the Middle East. Malatya, considered as important for Anatolia in the Byzantine era as well, was one of the places that Turks was willing to conquer. Traces of Seljuk architecture in the city enhance the importance of the city regarding Turkish-Islamic history.Apparently the results of excavations and surveys point out that the life in the city goes beyond BC, and the presence of Christian and Muslim monuments in the city shows the importance of the city. Historical monuments in the city testify the existence of Iranian, Byzantium, Roman, Arab, Armenian and Turkish civilizations.In this study, firstly a short introduction about preliminary history of Malatya is introduced and then its conquest by Turkish-Islamic hegemony is explained. The life in Anatolia is represented with the help of depicting the architectural monuments remained of the time in both before and during the Islamic period.In this study, the importance of the conquest of Malatya for Turkish-Islamic history and Middle Ages is introduced. Furthermore information about the properties of the architectural structures and the life tradition of that period is given.
