Abstract (EN)
The Great Seljuk State played an important role in the Islamization process of the Turks by establishing sovereignty over a wide area. Many religions and sects continued to exist in the regions where the Seljuks ruled. For this reason, the Seljuks determined religious and sectarian policies by taking into account the religious, political, social and cultural characteristics of the region. As a result of this determined policy, there were no large-scale sectarian fights and social events that threatened social peace between sects in Seljuk lands. This study, titled "Maturidism-Ash'arism Relations in the Seljuk Period", examines the relations between Maturidism and Ash'arism, two important sects of Ahl al-Sunnah, in the context of the Seljuk period. In our research, in addition to the sectarian tendencies of the Seljuk sultans and other rulers, the impact of other thought movements such as madrasahs, which were the educational institutions of the period, and Bâtınism on these relations were discussed. In addition, the intellectual and theological discussions of Maturidi and Ash'ari scholars who lived during the Seljuk period were evaluated on important issues, especially the adjective of genesis. In our study, a descriptive, in-depth analysis, critical, comparative and analytical approach was adopted, and at the same time, a conciliatory method that tried to act analytically was followed. During the literature review and data collection phase, classical and contemporary studies on the subject were used as much as possible. In this way, the situation of the Seljuks against the Maturidism and Ash'arism sects and the socio-political and cultural context of the relations between Maturidism and Ash'arism during the Seljuk period have been tried to be revealed in a multifaceted manner.
