Abstract (EN)
Strengthening people, the environment, infrastructure and society against floods will make cities more resilient to disasters. Thus people will have a safer and more sustainable living space. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of urban resilience against flooding on security perception. Within the scope of the research, an urban resilience scale against flooding was primarily developed. The data were collected through a survey administered to 542 volunteers aged 18 and over residing in the central district of Ortahisar in Trabzon Province, using a 5-point Likert scale. To test the validity of the scale, exploratory factor analysis was conducted, revealing four factors: individual, infrastructure, institutional, and environmental. Additionally, sociodemographic variables were used as independent variables. The feeling of safety against floods both at home and on the streets was used as dependent variable. The effect of independent variables on dependent variables was analyzed using the SPSS 25 program by the ordinal logistic regression method. As a result, it has been found that urban resilience in floods increases people's feeling safe at home and on the street. It was observed that individual resilience, among resilience factors, increases the feeling of safety at home and on the streets. The developed scale will be applicable for flood disasters in all cities with a coastline to the sea or ocean. The results obtained from this study will provide insights for scientists and disaster managers working in the field of disaster risk management to develop strategies for floods and resilience.
