Abstract (EN)

In this study, the 45th President of the U.S., Donald Trump's "Middle East" plan, which is claimed to aim to find a solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and is named the "Deal of the Century", is discussed. The study aims to reveal the differences in the handling of the news by two different broadcasters, the websites of TRT World and Al Arabiya English news channels. While determining the working range, the news on 28 January 2020, when the plan was announced, and the news on the next day were examined. In the research, analysis was tried to be made based on van Dijk's Critical Discourse Analysis method. By examining the Critical Discourse Analysis, a general framework was drawn regarding the broadcasters' approach to the plan in line with the foreign policies of their own countries. It was determined that TRT used a discourse against Trump's "Middle East" plan in line with the views of the Turkish public and the foreign policy of the government, but Al Arabiya defended the plan with a very clear discourse, which the Saudi Arabian government supported, albeit with contradictory, vague and open-to-interpretation sentences. It has been determined that media organizations produce discourse in line with the policies, interests and ideologies of the structures that control and finance them.
