Investigation of effects of Neostigmin and Sugammadex, used for reversing of neuromuscular block, on BIS values, postoperative recovery and nausea-vomitting in septoplasty surgeries

Abstract (EN)

At this study, weaimed to compare effects of neostigmin and sugammadex which us efor reversing neuromuscular blockade on BIS values, postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV), and recovery in patients who are undergoing septoplasty surgery. Following approval from the local ethics committee and writtenin formed consent for study participation was obtained, 61 patients, aged between 18-65 years, ASA status of I-II and undergoing septoplasty surgery, were included in the study. Patients were randomly divided into 2 groups as Group N (Neostigmin Group) and Group S (Sugammadex Group). 50 mcg/kg neostigmin and 20 mcg/kg atropin were given patients in Group N and 2 mg/kg sugammadex were given patients in Group S at the time of recovery when TOF was %70. To compare these medicines's effect on BIS values were recorded before reverse and after 1., 2., 3., 4., 5. min. reverse. The term of BIS value needed to get 80 and BIS values when TOF was 90 were also recorded. Patients were asked a 5-minute during postoperative 1. hour to compare medicines's effect on PONV. Patients were sent to service were also asked at the postoperative 1., 2., 3., 6., 12., 18., and 24. hours about PONV. The term of Modified Aldrete Scoring System needed to get 10 was used for compare medicines's effect on recovery. There was no statistically significiant difference in demographic and anesthesia data between groups. PONV was statistically significiant lower at the postoperative 1. hour in Group S compared with Group N. (p<0.05) There were no statistically significiant difference in the term of BIS value needed to get 80 and BIS values when TOF was %90. The term of MAS needed to get 10 was statistically significiant lower in Group S compared with Group N (p < 0.05). We think that, using sugammadex when compared to using neostigmine, decreases PONV, provides faster recovery from neuromuscular blockade , has stimulant effect on central nervous system by contributing faster increasing on brain electrical activity at early period.
