Abstract (EN)
Objective: Today, the demand for septorhinoplasty operation is increasing due to the increasing aesthetic expectation and anxiety. In this study, it was aimed to determine patient satisfaction, functional status of the nose and social appearance anxiety level after open technique septorhinoplasty operation by using scales. Secondly, it was aimed to compare the postoperative scores with the preoperative scores and to investigate the effect of septorhinoplasty on patient satisfaction, social appearance anxiety and functional status of the nose. Material and Methods: 100 patients aged 18-45 years, who applied to Dicle University Faculty of Medicine, Otorhinolaryngology Clinic with complaints of nasal functional disorder and cosmetic deformity and underwent septorhinoplasty between March 2021 and June 2021, were included. In our study, Turkish version of the Rhinoplasty Outcome Evaluation Questionnaire (ROE-T) and Nasal Obstruction Symptoms Evaluation (NOSE) were applied to our patients in order to evaluate their aesthetic and functional satisfaction in the preoperative period. In addition, the Social Appearance Anxiety Scale (SAAS) was applied to determine the social appearance anxiety levels of our patients in the preoperative period. The same questionnaires were applied again to the patients at the 6th month postoperatively during their routine check-ups or by contacting them by telephone. In this way, the aesthetic and functional satisfaction levels and social appearance anxiety levels of the patients after septorhinoplasty surgery were determined, compared with those before the surgery and statistical analysis was performed. Findings: The mean preoperative NOSE scores were 10.37 ± 5.36 /20, the mean was 5.95 ± 4.35 /20 at the 6th month postoperatively, and there was a statistically significant decrease in the postoperative NOSE scores (p<0.001). The mean preoperative ROE-T scores were 6.56 ± 3.55/24, and a mean of 14.23 ± 5.64 /24 at 6 months postoperatively. It was found that there was a statistically significant increase in the postoperative ROE-T scores of the cases (p<0.001). The mean preoperative SAAS scores were 38.13±12.57/80, and the mean was 32.70±12.20/80 at the 6th month postoperatively, and a statistically significant decrease was observed in the postoperative results (p<0.001). In addition, moderate negative correlation was found between NOSE and ROE-T scores, and ROE and SAAS scores. Conclusion: We concluded that there was a statistically significant increase in the satisfaction rates of our patients, both functionally and aesthetically, after the septorhinoplasty operation. We concluded that there was no statistically significant difference in patient satisfaction rates in the postoperative period according to gender, age and education level, and there was no relationship between patient satisfaction and gender, age and education levels. We also determined that there was a statistically significant decrease in social appearance anxiety of patients who had septorhinoplasty operation. We concluded that the septorhinoplasty operation had a positive effect on the biopsychosocial lives of the patients in general.
