Relations between Çukurova and Cyprus in late Bronze Age-Early Iron Age according to the pottery findings

This study is concerned with the pottery relations between Çukurova and Cyprus in the Late Bronze Age and Early Iron Age.In the Late Bronze Age, Kilise Tepe (Göksu Valley) yielded numereous fragments of Red Lustrous Wheel-made ware. In Çukurova the amount of this ware decreases radically, with only very few fragments being recovered at Yumuktepe, Gözlükule, Kinet Höyük and Soloi Pompeiopolis. This ware is found more extensively on island of Cyprus than anywhere else. Mainly shapes of this ware are Spindle Bottle, Arm-Shaped Vessels, Pilgrim Flask, Lentoid Flask, Jar, Jug and Wide Bowl. Characteristic shapes of this ware has been found over a wide geographical area such as Egypt, Paletsine, Syria, Anatolia and Cyprus. The origin of RLW-m ware has long been a subject of debate.In the Late Bronze Age, Cypriot pottery in Çukurova is represented mainly by White Slip II, Base-ring, White Shaved, Monochrome and Bichrome wares are rare. Cypriot pottery is found at Yumuktepe, Gözlükule, Soloi - Pompeiopolis and Kinet Höyük. This ware is absent at Kilise Tepe in Late Bronze Age.In the Early Iron Age, Cypriot pottery in Çukurova is represented mainly by Cilician Painted and Cilician Painted of Cypriot Style wares.Key Words: Çukurova, Cyprus, Late Bronze Age, Early Iron Age, Pottery
