Abstract (EN)
We are living in a crowded world of object because of industrial revolution and mass production as its outcome. All these objects, which are cultural, physical and psychological interaction tools, are invisible and ordinary object as long as it keeps on functioning. Generally these functional objects are named as everyday objects and we connect them through their rational and irrational qualifications. The working area of semiotics which declared its independence and is accepted as a discipline in the 20th century is not limited to literature or linguistics. Conversely many disciplines as plastic arts, industrial product design, architecture, graphic design, performing arts and cinema benefit from semiotics. Consequently, semiotics can be used to examine the above-mentioned rational and irrational qualifications of everyday objects that can be classified as materials, function, form, meaning. In this thesis a case study is created to examine the everyday object. While sticking to its form, some everyday objects (padlock, paper cup, facecloth) are interpreted with ceramic material and dissimilarly to first function, lighting function is assigned them. The first image that appear in our minds in other words bias about these objects are tried to transfer to ceramic. The generated "new" is functioned as lighting because of its form. Two staged process is examined; hands on experience and results are presented to reader.
