Abstract (EN)
Soil mechanics and geotechnics carry out studies that affect all living things on earth and provide information for all living things to live in a more controllable environment. Brief information about the study created in the field of geotechnics, which is a large field of study, is below; This study, conducted on unsaturated soils, aims to provide a realistic approach to the amount of matric suction in the soil and the strength of the soil at a certain water content. For this approach, it is first necessary to understand and interpret the soil well; for this, the characteristic features of the soil must be determined correctly. After determining the properties of the soil, steps can be taken to solve the problem encountered. A wide variety of soil problems are encountered in the world, if we were to list these problems, dozens of titles would be required. In line with this study, a few examples of various soil problems such as slope stability, soil swelling, landslides, soil settlement can be listed. As a result of this study, the effect of matric suction in the soil on strength and the effects of water content in the soil on soil strength were examined in order to provide an approach to some problems that may be encountered. For this investigation, studies were carried out on samples created in a laboratory environment. Two different experiments were required for the examination, and in both experiments, there were 6 and 8 experiments in 2 different groups, making a total of 28 experiments. 1st Experiment To evaluate the martic suction feature of the soil with the filter paper method, 8 experiments were conducted in the 1st Group with 80% sand - 20% clay and water content in variable amounts, and 8 experiments were conducted in the 2nd Group with 90% sand - 10% clay and water content in variable amounts has been made. 2nd Experiment to measure the strength of the soil according to the water content in the soil with the unconfined compression test, 6 pieces were used in the 1st Group with 80% sand - 20% clay and water content in variable amounts and in the 2nd Group 90% sand - 10% clay and water content in variable amounts. 6 experiments were conducted. The soil samples used for the two test groups were sand-clay mixture samples, and experiments were carried out by keeping the sand-clay amount constant and changing the water content. As a result of these experiments, it was observed that the strength of the soil clearly decreased when the water content of the soil increased.
