Abstract (EN)
The aim of the study is to investigate the acute changes in some serum biochemical markers [myoglobin, creatin kinease muscle iso-enzyme (CK-MM), S 100 B, heart-type fatty acid-binding (H-FABP)] indicating muscle and brain damage as a result of over loading in one session of Greco-Roman and free style wrestling competitions. Study group consists of >19 years old healthy athletes participated in the Greco-Roman and free style wrestling competitions carried out in İzmir and Manisa in 2009. Study groups composed of two groups, namely Greco-Roman (GR; n= 15) and free style (FR; n= 16) groups. Wrestlers wrestled only one session. Their blood samples were taken before and 20 minutes after the competition and analyzed in the biochemistry laboratory. In addition, all competitions and the traumas were video-recorded. At the end of one competition session, the statistically significant difference observed in CK-MM in Greco-Roman style was not found in the free style. S 100 B, H-FABP and myoglobin values significantly increased in both GR and FR groups. However, when the changes obtained in GR and FR in myoglobin, S 100 B, and H-FABP were compared, no statistically significant differences were determined; but a statistically significant difference was determined only in CK-MM levels. In addition, we determined significant correlations between the total trauma scoring and the change in S100B levels in FR; and the total trauma scoring and the change in myoglobin in GR group. In conclusion, we can say that neither of the wrestling styles affects the markers showing muscle and brain damage differently, except for CK-MM.
