Determination of the factors that affect the burden of caregivers of children with cerebral palsy

In this research, aim to define effects of caregiver' burden base on children with cerebral palsy. Participants of the research have been obtained base on information given by caregivers of 131 children who with cerebral palsy have been treated at least one year in Özel Zeytindalı Fizyolight Rehabilitation Center ve Özel Mavi Pusula Rehabilitation Center. Datas were collected by using sociodemographic characteristics form and Burden İnterview (BI). ANOVA, t test and regresyon analysis of SPSS 23 program was used to evaluate the datas. When the demografic features of individual were examined, it has been seen that 45,8% were between 30 and 39 years old, 87,8% were women, 42% were primary school graduate, 96,9% were married, 69,5% had higher or equal revenue than expense, 89,3% had health insurance (SSK), 42,7% had 2 children, 84,7% were mother and 72,3% were not ill. It was observed as 52,7% of children with cerebral palsy could eat, 10,7% could bath, 31,3% could dress, 32,1% could toilet, 32,8% could walk without any help. Meanwhile, 68,7% of the caregivers did not have any person who helps them. Avarage BI points of participants were determined as 46,57±13,43 which was medium-serious level. Participants who had low education level or had any kind of disease or were responsible from SP children who were not capable to do daily activities (walking, eating, cleaning, dressing and toileting) without help had higher BI points. In conclusion, education level, having any kind of disease, being responsible for more children and being responsible of SP children who are not capable to do daily activities were determined as the increasing factors of caregivers' burden. The results of this study will provide nurses to make a decision about priorities of nursing care and contribute them for planing their nursing attempt.
