An evaluation of sleep quality and anxiety of cerebrovascular patients

This study aims to investigate the trait anxiety, hospital anxiety, hospital depression and sleep quality of stroke patients diagnosed at Kırşehir Ahi Evran University Education and Research Hospital, depending on various demographic variables. The population of the study consists of all patients who have been diagnosed with ischemic stroke or intracerebral hemorrhage after their application to Kırşehir Ahi Evran University Training and Research Hospital between July 2017 and July 2018. The Personal Information Form, developed by the researcher as a data collection tool alongside the Trait - Anxiety Index, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, Pittsburg Sleep Quality Index have been used for carrying out the purpose of this study. At the end of the study, 15.7\% of patients had high level of anxiety and 56.6\% of patients had moderate level of anxiety; those with risk of hospital anxiety were 39\%; those at risk for hospital depression 64.2\%; those with risky sleep quality cover 69\%. There was no statistically significant difference in terms of trait anxiety, hospital anxiety, hospital depression and sleep quality averages according to variables of season and time of illness, length of stay, family history, age, place of residence, number of children, consumption of alcohol, food habits, carotid stenosis, diabetes mellitus and atrial fibrillation. Women's trait anxiety, hospital anxiety and hospital depression were higher, and sleep quality was lower than men. Trait anxiety and hospital anxiety were higher and sleep quality was lower among patients with low family income. Trait anxiety, hospital anxiety, and hospital depression among patients with recurrent stroke, illiterate and hypertensive; trait anxiety and hospital anxiety among unmarried; however, only hospital anxiety was found to be significantly higher among smokers. The percentages of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease and atrial fibrillation were as follows; 60.4, 42.8, 35.2 and 13.8. The ratio of those having a body mass index of 25 or more is 71.7\%.
