Interculturalism in the cinema of Sergei Parajanov: The example of Aşık Garip

In this thesis titled "Interculturalism in The Cinema of Sergei Parajanov: The Example of Aşık Garip", primarily culture, interculturalism and interculturalism associated with conceptual knowledge has been manifested. In addition, the main characteristics of the culture and cinema of the Soviet Union, which play a role in shaping the intercultural dimension of Parajanov's cinema, are also included, as this will facilitate to come up with an answer to the question of what are the intercultural features of Parajanov's cinema and how these features are implemented in terms of form and content. Thus, a theoretical background was attempted to be put forward in order to comprehend the fundamental patterns of Parajanov's cinema. In the last part of the study, the elements that make up the intercultural features of Parajanov cinema are discussed and depending on which aspects of Aşık Garip film reflects intercultural aspects, it is examined in the light of the information obtained by document and film analysis method. It has been found that the intercultural characteristics of Parajanov's cinema have been transformed into an intertextual creation force with the help of external determinants such as the Caucasus and the USSR geography, which has a historical and cultural heritage that provides an environment for multiculturalism and interculturalism. Accordingly, it has been observed that the intercultural dimension of Parajanov's cinema has a breadth and depth ranging from the cultural interaction network in production to the form and content features of the films.
