Abstract (EN)

Slip ring connections of wound rotor induction machines can offer facilities in electrical drive applications. One of these applications is the synchronous induction motor connection. Researchers have employed different approaches for the design and study of these synchronus induction motors. This study aims at developing a comprehensive model for the steady-state and dynamic behaviour of a series excited slip ring synchrorous induction motor, with the ultimate goal of providing a basis for design. For the dynamics behaviour, the known approach of phase variable model for the induction machine has been reformed to include the series excitation phenomena along with the diode rectifier bridge and an approachhas been adopted to take the saturation into account. On the other hand, the essential relations for calculation of the machine inductances have been provided. The stiff differential equations of the dynamic performance model have been solved by a computer package based on a Gear Algorithm. The study has undertaken to validate the newly adopted model experimentally. The software developed for the simulation has been described. Experimental work is included for testing of the validity of the approach. The results have been assessed and proposals for further study have been put forward. The slope and contents of the thesis make up a computer simulation foundation aimed towards the design of a series excited synchronous motor.
