Abstract (EN)
Sermimar Sinan lived for 99 years. He spent the first half of his life in the Janissary Corps at different levels. During this period, during the campaigns he participated in as a soldier, he observed the structures in the places he visited, developed his own methods with the information he learned, and attracted the attention of administrators and sultans. Due to his successes, he was promoted to the title of Ser Mimaran-ı Hassa, that is, the head of the palace architects, and he spent the remaining half of his life serving the state with this title. He left many works in the lands ruled by the Ottoman Empire. It has pioneered many innovations in its buildings, such as earthquake-resistant designs, special mortars, unique calculation methods, and acoustic dome designs. He took Ottoman Architecture to the highest level it could reach. However, the long-lasting works, construction techniques and methods that are the product of Mimar Sinan's life full of success are not well known neither in Turkey nor in the world. In the study, the information obtained as a result of the literature review will be compared with the relevant articles of the 2018 Earthquake Regulation, and it is aimed to reveal the reasons behind the time-defying Sinan structures and to make them available to relevant researchers.
