Abstract (EN)

Escherichia coli (E. coli) is widely found in the guts of humans and warm-blooded animals. Humans get infected by eating contaminated foods like as raw or undercooked ground beef products, raw milk, and contaminated raw vegetables and sprouts. Although O157:H7 serotype are the most common EHEC pathogens in several countries, numerous additional serotypes, especially including that of the O157:H7O serogroup, which cause disease and are more prevalent than from other E. coli serotypes. This study was conducted from February 2022 to April 2022. During the study period, were collected 150 samples from diarrhea infection in children during their visit to Hospital in Maysan Governorate. According to the findings of this study, the antibiotics Nitrofurantoin, Sulfa-Trimethoprim, Piperacillin, Cephazolin, and Ertapenem had the highest resistance to antibiotics at 64%, 64%, 42%, 42% respectively. The presence of genes encoding virulence factors was determined using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). PCR revealed that 38(76%) isolates had the 16rRNA gene as a universal gene for E. coli diagnosis, while 28(56%) had the E. coli O157 serotype, 40(80%) had the CNF1 gene, and 38(76%) had the eaeA gene.
