Abstract (EN)

Comparison of C-MAC, McGrath and Macintosh laryngoscope in a standardized airway manikin with immobilized cervical spine by novice intubators Objective: The aim of this study was to compare C-MAC, McGrath and Macintosh laryngoscope in a standardized airway manikin with immobilized cervical spine by novice intubators. Methods: This was a prospective, randomized-controlled, cross-sectional study. Then primary outcome was the duration of intubation. Secondary outcome measures were overall success rate, duration of endotracheal tube insertion (ETT) and glottis view time, presence of dental trauma, number of intubation attempts, POGO and Cormack-Lehane grades of the 3 laryngoscopes. Result: A total of 99 novices participated to this study. There was no difference in terms of duration of endotracheal intubation (p=0.14), overall intubation success, ETT insertion time (p=0.83) and the number of endotracheal intubation attempts among then airway devices. But the duration of glottic view (p<0.001), scores such as Cormack-Lehane (p<0.001), POGO (p<0.001) and dental trauma (p<0.001) was less with both video laryngoscopes. Conclusion: Video laryngoscopes has the advantage of brief learning period and improved glottic views and similar success rates, video laryngoscopes may be preferred over direct laryngoscopes. key words: immobilized cervical spine, video laryngoscope, airway management
