An analysis of the essential elements that should be present in children's publishings of silent books

Silent books, which have gained recognition and popularity in various fields, need to be examined as publications aimed at children. The main objective of this research is to evaluate silent books in terms of elements specific to children's publications. The research model is document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods. Data sources were selected based on the criteria of having a narrative and accessibility. Within the scope of the research, a total of 52 silent boks were examined, 42 of which were foreign and 10 were domestic. The 'Silent Book Evaluation Rubric' was developed by the researcher so that the identified silent boks could be examined in terms of the basic elements that should be found in children's publications. The validity study of the SKDR was conducted using the Lawshe technique. To ensure the reliability of the content analysis, the same data sources were re-examined by the researcher at different time intervals. Following the examinations, 10% of the boks were re-evaluated by the advisor. The SCER consists of four fundamental elements: visual language, visual design, characters, and subject matter. A total of 52 silent boks selected through a rubric consisting of 60 items were analysed three times by the researcher between June and August. The results of the research determined that 40 of the silent boks were suitable in terms of visual language, 35 in terms of visual design, 44 in terms of characters, and 43 in terms of subject matter. The overall evaluation concluded that 39 of the silent boks were suitable, 5 were partially suitable, and 9 were unsuitable.
