Abstract (EN)

This study aims to identify the adverbial phrases in Sevinç Çokum's novel Ağustos Başağı. Since the research is based on a single literary study, the document analysis method, one of the qualitative research designs, was chosen. The study focuses on determining the concept of adverbial phrases, a syntactic element in Turkish, and identifying the structures that form them within the novel. First, each sentence in the novel was examined individually to identify adverbial structures. These structures were then categorized into five main types: time, manner, quantity, direction, and interrogative adverbs. Each category was further classified based on its subtypes. The findings were presented and analyzed using tables and figures. A total of 2,837 adverbial phrases were identified in the study. Among them, manner adverbs were the most prevalent, constituting 57.27% of the total. Interrogative adverbs, on the other hand, were the least common, making up only 1.86%. Among interrogative adverbs, neden and niye were the most frequently used, while nasıl was the least used. This study highlights the significance of adverbial phrases in Turkish syntax in terms of their contribution to the expressive power of the language. As academic research on sentence components, particularly adverbial phrases, continues to grow, the subject will be better understood.
