ABSTRACT PhD THESIS HAEMATOLOGIC RESEARCHES ON SOME CYPRINIDS IN SEYHAN RIVER (ADANA CITY REGION) Aysel ŞAHAN(AZİZO?LU) DEPARTMENT OF FISHERIES INSTUTE OF NATURAL AND APPLDED SCIENCES UNIVERSITY OF ÇUKUROVA Supervisor: Assoc. Prof.Dr. İbrahim CENGİZLER Year: 2000, Pages: 116 Jury : Assoc. Prof.Dr. İbrahim CENGİZLER : Prof.Dr. Gürkan EKİNGEN : Prof. Dr. Mustafa SARIEYYÜPO?LU This study was conducted haematological investigations on four species of Cyprinid in Seyhan River between May 1997 and May 1998. This study was carried out in a particular are polluted by agricultural, industrial, slaughterhause, and domestic wastes in Seyhan River. Wild Carp (Cyprinus ca/p/'o,Linnaeus 1758), Roach {Rutilus rutilus, Linnaeus, 1758), Spotted Barb (Capoeta barroisi, Lortet,1894), Barb (Barbus rajanorum, Heckel,1843) were study materials. Basic hematologic parameters and effects of seasonal differences on these parameters were determined on Cyprinid species adapted living in this polluted are. Similar results were found for erythrocyte and leucocyte cells amount on four Cyprinid species. The erythrocyte amount commenced to increased in Summer and it reached maximum level in Fall. Although amount of leucocyte cells increased in Summer due to pollution and infection decreased in winter. Ecto parasite (Dactylogyrus vasiator, Gyrodaclylus elegans, Ichlhyophthirius mullifilis, Thchodina nigra and Argulus foliaceus) and endo parasite Cestoda (Schistocepfialus sp. and Caryophyllaeus mutabilis) might have caused the increased in leucocyte of C.carpio in Summer. Serum glucose values changed with water temperature on Cyprinid. Serum protein amounts changed with feeding level. The levels of blood electrolits were different for each species related to environmental stress factors. A deviation from standard were determined and for all haematological parameters for C.carpio and they were more effected from environmental stress factors. Key Words: Cyprinidae, Freshwater Fish Haematology, Fish Blood, Pollution and Fish Physiology. II
