Abstract (EN)
It is a generally accepted fact that today there are two different civilisation concepts named as the East and the West; and that there are communities beginning from the East of Europe, which belong to the Eastern civilisation. In this categorical approach, the Islamic civilisation takes place with in the Eastern side. Sezai karakoç, makes a clear Division between the above mentioned civilisations. By examining the characteristicscon fined to each civilisation, he concludesthateach of themare at oppositepolars, and that Islamic point of view constructs a fair balance between both. The East has built its concept supon the superiority of themind, yet it has alsoneglected the metaphysicalaspect and beliefs. It has movedto hail the sacredness of the mind instead of belief sandreligion, and so it has completely become materialistic. As the Western civilisation, which has esteblished itself upon thesla very to mind, cannotresist this slavery, it has entered a process of destruction. On the otherhand, thenon-Islamic East has experienced the mysticalemotions of false beliefs, fevers, and instinctive approaches, all of which are signs of itscharacteristicsand perception of civilisation. Rather than suggesting that the subject of civilisation is justreflected in his works, we can say that it is the very essence of his literarycreation. In the dissertation thesis, prepared in this scope, the main goal is analyse Sezai Karakoç'sperception of Western civilisation in theearlyperiodpoems, where his view sarepresented in symbolicallayers of his lines. He, criticisesthe Western civilisation through modernisation movements and the destructive consequences it has brought about. Through the criticism he makes on a personallevel, he attemptsto Show theyouth, men and women become immensely depressed, degeneratedand lost their constructive values in theirlives in cities. Thisdissertation, accepting a-priorit hat there is a close connection between literature, politicsand ideology, is significant as it is an inter disciplinary study. As Karakoç alsodeclares, the function of literature, andpoetry in particular, as an identity constructive and culture bearing features makes important contributionsto the development of humans and communities. In this regard, this study may pave the way for new studies as it focusesupon how literature, and poetry particularly, can reflect politicali deasand ideologies.
