The effect of intuitive grammar practices on attitude of Turkish lesson, attitude of grammar and grammar achievement

Developments in science and technology from past to present have had an impact on educational sciences as well as in other fields. The efforts of countries to improve their educational opportunities have paved the way for them to turn to innovative thoughts. Attempts to keep up with the times and contribute to the developing and globalizing world have also been effective in the formation of new approaches. The constructivist approach pioneered by Piaget, Vigotsky and Bruner led to the emergence of an educational process in which the learner is at the center. Traditional education programs have left their place to teaching with a constructivist approach over time and have taken their place in the curriculum of the states. Considering the grammar teaching methods in schools, both the effectiveness of the teaching methods and the usage examples based on these methods have prepared the ground for the examination of the studies in this field. In the literature review, it is seen that teachers are far from carrying the intuitive method they are asked to use in grammar teaching to the classroom environment. Based on this situation, it is thought that it can guide both current teachers and teacher candidates with intuitive grammar practices on which experimental work has been done. Therefore, this study was carried out to fill the gap in the literature. The study group of the research consists of public school students, and the sample consists of 40 students from 7th grade students of a secondary school, determined according to the purposeful sampling method. In the practice carried out in two different classes, 20 students are in the experimental group and 20 students are in the control group. While intuitive grammar teaching was applied to the experimental group from these groups, traditional grammar teaching was applied to the control group. The work schedule of these practices includes an 8-week period. The method of the research is mixed method, the design is experimental design. Three different quantitative scales and an interview form to support these scales were used in the study. Grammar achievement scale, grammar attitude scale and Turkish lesson attitude scale were used for the quantitative dimension. The scales were selected from the existing scales in the literature. In addition, a structured interview form was prepared for the subjects measured in the quantitative areas of the research, and with this form, the opinions of the experimental group students were taken with the help of a qualitative scale. The analysis of the scales applied in the research was processed with the IBM SPSS version 26. The dependent and independent t-test was used as an analysis method to determine the differences in the measured values between the control and experimental groups in the study. In the results of the analysis, a significant difference was found in favor of the experimental group in all of the scales including the intuitive grammar teaching practices, Turkish lesson attitude, grammar attitude and grammar success.
