Abstract (EN)

In this study, the effectiveness of the use of poppy oil (Papaver somniferum) in the treatment of dermatophytosis in cattle was evaluated and compar with Pomade salicylic. A total of 21 animals were used in the study, with 7 animals in each group. Skin scrapings were taken from Holstein cattle in a farm with clinical fungal infection on their skin, and mycological examination was performed. Afterwards, poppy oil was applied topically to one group and salicylic pomade to the other group for 14 days. On the other hand, no application was made to the control group animals except for skin scraping. After recording the macroscopic findings of the animals in all groups, skin biopsy was taken from the lesioned areas on the 7th and 14th days, and histopathologically and immunohistochemically examined. Inflammatory changes in tissues were evaluated according to days and semi-quantitative analyzes were performed. The presence of the agent in the lesioned areas was demonstrated by PAS and Grocott Methenamine Silver methods. At the end of the study, on the 7th day, it was observed that inflammatory cell infiltrations in the subepidermal tissue and dermis increased in both groups, the follicular hyperplasia became more pronounced and the density of the agents in the hair follicles decreased. On the 14th day, it was determined that the severity of the subepidermal and dermal inflammation decreased, the stratified squamous epithelium and hair follicles healed close to the normal structure and structure, and the structures belonging to the agent were either less or not observed. At the anti-CK16 immunohistochemistry, that immune-positive reactions were observed at varying degrees in both groups and the reactions continued to increase on the 14th day. As a result, it was concluded that poppy oil can be viable alternative to Pomade salicylic because of its easy-to-use and economic advantages in animals with trichophytosis.
