Spreading violence through social media: The murder of Emine Bulut

Violence, which has become an increasingly difficult problem to solve in Turkey and around the world, has entered a perrod of visibleness and awareness that manifest itself in writing and visually with the influence of social media. Almost every day, news of violence on social media, it has made some of the society injured and mobilized while pushing some to normalize and indifferent to the violence experienced. The visibility that has occured has evolved into a new culture with the advancement of technological developments and communication methods in our age. This culture ignores the existing order, causing us to see that everthing that is spoken is a subtex of everything that is said. Through this research, it is aimed to observe the effect of violence on social media. Emine Bulut murder sample, which was spread through Twitter, one of the most preferred social media platforms to use, was selected and a week of statistical data analysis was performed. At the same time, discourse analysis war carried out in the contex of the populary interaction of the 5 most liked and commented tweets during this time and meanings of the published murder video other than the apparent meaning were examined in terms of semiotics. With this research, it is aimed to see if the phenemenon of violence reflected on social media in Turkey has harrowed the presence of violence in society and entered a violent trajectory.
