Evaluation of the excavations of Side urban and 3rd degree archaeological site 779-14, 798-1, 785-19 and 785-18 parcels in the light of ceramics

Side, which attracted the attention of many geographers and travelers from al-Idrisi, one of the important geographers of the 12th century, to Lanckoronski, who came to the region in 1882, is undoubtedly one of the most important ports of Pamphylia. The city, which came to the fore especially with the slave trade, was a large port city where agricultural products produced in its territory and other export products were offered to the Eastern Mediterranean market. At this point, the city's plan and magnificient public buildings clearly reveal the importance size of the city. In addition, new findings unearthed in the excavations carried out since 2014 in the parcels located on the peninsula in the city, in line with the 'Revised Development Plan for Conservation Purposes' reveal the scope and intensity of the development activities carried out Side during the ancient period. The results obtained in the excavations of plots 779-14, 798-1, 785-19 and 785-18 carried out in this context are important in terms of understanding the housing tradition of Side in different centuries. In addition to reflecting different traditions from each other, these structures have also experienced periods when they were used simultaneously in long periods of use. The pottery obtained in these excavations and repertoire of pottery they created in the Eastern Mediterranean trade, with North Africa, Syria, Palestine, Lebanon, Cyprus, the southern coasts of Anatolia (especially Lycia and Cilicia) and the Aegean Islands, reflects their relationship.
