Abstract (EN)

The purpose of this research is to evaluate the effectiveness of the public service announcements on altering the attitude of individuals, who currently smoke or who have smoked but quit, towards smoking. The research has been conducted inside the provincial borders of Hatay. The samples of this study include individuals who are between 18-60 years old, living in Hatay, who have been watching the last six months' public service announcements, who earn at least the minimum wage, smoke or have quit and haven't smoked for at least a year. 208 individuals, 154 of whom are smokers and the remaining 54 have quit smoking, have participated in this research. The scales used in gathering data are demographic information forms, survey forms on the attitude towards public service announcements, acute scales of public service announcements and scale of belief on smoking. According to the research results, it has been established that although the public service announcements have not created the anticipated effect on smokers towards quitting. It has been concluded that public service announcements have reduced the effect of starting smoking again on those who have quit smoking.
