Determination of yield and some yield components of some sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.), sudangrass [Sorghum sudanense (Piper) Stapf], sorghum x sudangrass hybrids (Sorghum bicolor x Sorghum sudanense Stapf) and corn (Zea mays L.) varieties under second crop in siirt province

This study was conducted to determine the yield and quality characteristics of some sorghum, sudangrass, sorghum x sudangrass hybrids and maize cultivars which can be grown as a second crop in Siirt ecological conditions in 2016. In the study; 2 sorghum (Master BMR and Rox), 1 sudangrass (Gözde-80), 3 sorghum x sudangrass hybrid (Forage King, Sugar Graze-II and Greengo) and 3 corn cultivars (OSSK-644, Samada-07 and DKC6101) were used as plant material. The field experiment was established with 3 replications according to randomized complete blocks design. Plant height, stem diameter, leaf number per plant, fresh herbage yield, hay yield, crude protein (CP) ratio, crude protein yield, ratio of insoluble fiber in acid detergent (ADF), ratio of insoluble fiber in neutral detergent (NDF), and relative feed values were obtained in the study. Statistically significant (p≤0.01) differences were obtained in all traits evaluated in the study (plant height, stem diameter, leaf number per plant, fresh herbage yield, hay yield, CP ratio, CP yield, ADF ratio, NDF ratio and NYD). According to obtained results, plant height (217.9-295.3 cm), stem diameter (12.42-24.45 mm), leaf number per plant (10.5-14.4), fresh herbage yield (2931.0-3577.0 kg/da), and dry yield (622.4-949.4 kg/da) were obtained for sorghum and corn cultivars. The CP ratio was between 7.17-11.73%, CP yield was between 60.33-100.28 kg/da, the ADF content of the dry grass was between 33.06-40.74%, the NDF content was between 60.66-72.53 and the relative feed values were varied between 74.6-96.9. As a result of the research; It is recommended to cultivate sorghum cultivar Rox when Siirt and similar ecological conditions are taken into consideration with high fresh grass, hay and HP yields and low ADF and NDF ratios.
