Honey consumption status and habits of consumers in Siirt province

The aim of this study is to reveal the preferences of bee products, the general characteristics of consumers and their consumption preferences. In this study, which was carried out in Siirt province, it was tried to determine the honey consumption preferences and habits of consumers in the city center of Siirt, and to determine the honey consumption habits of consumers, in short, the frequency and amount of honey consumption. In addition, an answer was sought to the question of which factors affect honey consumption. For this purpose, a face-to-face survey was conducted with 300 consumers in the province of Siirt, which is an important production and consumption center. The income status of the consumers living in the city center of Siirt affects honey consumption, the honey consumption is low, they find honey consumption beneficial, the majority of them buy honey in autumn and winter and they are satisfied with the quality of the honey they buy, they consume it mostly for breakfast and in winter, and the vast majority of them think honey is beneficial for health and taste. and stated that they consume it for its benefits. It has been determined that the quality of honey, production date, preservation in glass containers are given importance and they prefer to buy honey directly from the producer. As a result, in order to increase honey consumption, the amount of honey production should be increased, access to quality and affordable honey should be facilitated, consumers should be informed, more promotions should be made about honey and bee products, and consumers should be conscious about the health benefits of bee products in particular. In addition, it has been determined that the education of consumers about the importance of honey consumption for a healthy life and the increase in the income level of consumers will contribute positively to their honey consumption habits. With this study, honey consumption habits of consumers in Siirt province were revealed. The issues that consumers consider in consumption are examined and various solutions are given as suggestions.
