An evaluation of symbolic figures in terms of ceramics art education

This study sets out to evaluate the symbolic figures in terms of ceramics art through he the views of students and instructors.Sub-problems comprised the opinions of students receiving ceramics education and instructors involved in the field. The sample of the study is 100 students at 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade at higher education institutions selected through random method located in Ankara as well as 3 instructors employed at 2 higher school institutions. As the means of data collection a questionnaire was used developed by the researcher. Data obtained through the questionnaires were analyzed through descriptive statistics made up of frequency, arithmetic average, standard deviation, and t test.Instructors use symbolic figures in ceramic education and have students apply them along with the objectives of their subject.Students use symbolic figures taught at theoretical courses in their works and the works are affected by the symbolic figures.The results of the study suggest that instructors and students alike use symbolic figures in their works and they are both eager to use the symbolic figure s in their works.The use of symbolic figures used in ancient cultures in the educational process of ceramics education promote the impressiveness of the works. Hence, within the culture, symbolic figures develop and change through the influence from the past.Keywords: Art education, ceramics, symbol, symbolic figure
