Abstract (EN)
This study examined the effects of simulations used in science classes on students' academic success and participation in classes. The sample of the study consisted of 125 sixth grade students studying at a state secondary school in Burdur. In this study, which was conducted with a quasi-experimental design, students were divided into three groups: The presentation-based teaching method was applied to the first experimental group, and the simulation-supported presentation-based teaching method was applied to the second experimental group. The teaching methods recommended by the MEB Science Course Curriculum were used in the control group. Before and after the application, the "Electricity Conduction Unit Achievement Test" and the "Science Course Participation Scale" were applied to all three groups. The application continued for three weeks, and at the end of this period, it was observed that there was a significant increase in the academic success and participation levels of the students in the second experimental group, where the simulation-supported presentation-based teaching method was applied, compared to the other groups.The data obtained showed that the simulation-supported presentation teaching method had a positive effect on the academic success of the students. It was determined that the post-test success average scores of the group to which this method was applied were significantly higher than not only the presentation method group but also the control group. In addition, it was found that the simulation-supported presentation science learning method increased the students' participation behaviors in science class. It was found that this group participated in science class at a higher level than the control group, and this showed that the method strengthened the students' participation levels in science class. Based on the research results, it is recommended that teachers expand the use of simulation-supported teaching methods in science classes to increase academic success and student participation. It is recommended that the Ministry of National Education make the interactive simulations to be integrated into the EBA platform easy to access both for use at school during the lesson and for individual use at home.
