Relating cinema movies to teaching philosophy group courses

Cinema theorists have made discussions about the purpose of cinema. While the first discussion saw cinema as a means of communication based on experimentation and observation, another discussion preferred to handle the art of cinema with its philosophical dimensions. When we combine both views, it can be concluded that, firstly, cinema can be functional in education in terms of being a visual communication tool, and secondly, cinema can provide an effective transfer of philosophy problems to students in philosophy courses. Teaching of philosophy group courses is a suitable field for these studies. We can say that, in recent years, there has been an increase in the number of examples of sample films and their association with philosophy topics in the textbooks. Especially for a student who meets the philosophy course for the first time in the 10th grade, making the subjects fun by making film activities will also be important in terms of ensuring the interest in the course. The aim of this study is to establish a connection between the learning outcomes and love for the curricula of the philosophy course and philosophy group courses, which include abstract subjects, and cinema films, so that the learning outcomes can be understood. It is envisaged that, thanks to the outcomes of this study, the philosophy group teachers will make the students love the course, thus enabling the students to comprehend the subjects more easily. The sample of the study consists of 10th grade and 11th grade students at Şehit Ömer İpek Girls Anatolian Imam Hatip High School in Sincan district of Ankara province in the 1st Term of the 2023-2024 academic years. Within the scope of the research, 10th grade students were shown the cartoon movie "Hay" and 11th grade students were shown the movie "New Life", it was aimed to establish relationship between philosophy and cinema by asking questions about the impact of the movies on philosophy teaching.
