Visual effects with clay in motion picture industry

In the year of 1902 Georges Mélies, to describe the scenes which takes place in his film ?Voyage Dans la Lune? artificialy created elaborated sets, accessorry and prosthetic make-up for the first time. Thus he introduced artificial forms to the cinema art. During 1920?s in the movies by using stop-motion animation, a period was started which surreal creatures were shown together with actors on the screen. In this period many fantastic film was shot particularly by animator and creature designer Willis O?Brien and his protégé Ray Harryhausen. With their sets, accessories and creatures these films formed the basics of the next generation movies. In Europe, Jan Swankmayer used the clay and artificial forms in his works, in a totally different way from Hollywood aesthetic. When artificial forms was used in Star Wars series which George Lucas started to shot in 1977 it was another milestone for the motion picture industry. For this film which he made six episodes Lucas formed a company called Industrial Light and Magic. This company produced the largest artificial forms archieve in the motion Picture industry and educated many artists. Following this period like Industrial Light and Magic many special effect and model workshops were formed in States. Stan Winston Studio, Tippett Studio, Amalgamated Dynamics Inc. were some of these. They achieved many goals in artificial forms as animatronic, prosthetic make- up, property production. With their technical and artistic skills they made great success. For these three films, creature design , masks , prosthetic make-ups, costumes, weaponry-armory, miniatures over 28.000 artificial forms were produced.
