Representation of investigative journalism practices in cinema: Analysis of "All The President's Men" and "The Post" movies

One of the most important sources of information in the world, which will cost the present and future of societies by the people, communities and institutions that hold power, and which will research and convey to the public the information about the situation or event kept secret in all its reality, has been the "press". Investigative journalism, on the other hand, has become one of the most important representatives of the fourth power, which reveals all the truths that have been meticulously hidden, by adopting the public interest as a principle throughout history. The nature and importance of investigative journalism and its impact on society are conveyed to the audience thanks to the films and documentaries about investigative journalism. However, how films that deal with investigative journalism and its practices represent this field also have a critical role. For this reason, as the problem of the thesis, "investigation of how investigative journalism and its practices are represented in movies" has been determined. In the light of the identified problem, the film "The Post" and "All The President's Men", which are about the "Watergate robbery" and "the leaking of Pentagon documents", were chosen as the sample of the research. As a result of the study, it was concluded that investigative journalism and its practices were successfully represented in these films, which were examined with the method of semiotic analysis, in addition, the concepts of freedom of the press and censorship were effectively included in the films.
