Abstract (EN)

Dağyeri (Koçıgaze) village is a forest village in Erfelek district of Sinop province. The village was founded by the north Causasus Circassians (Adyeler) who came to Sinop on November 13,1881. while the number at the begining it was thirty household but now it is descreased until fifteen. The area which the people settled at the beginning is called Hekuj, and it means old hometown or old homeland. It is today a plantation field. The population in the village is completely Circassian. In this research we studied the use of Circassian language, cultural values, traditions, old stories, wedding songs and lullabies in the villages. The nearest Circassian village to Dağyeri is 10 kms away. Though Cirassian had been spoken till 1980s, today the number of the speakers decreased to eight. When the fact that the speakers of Circassian are now mostly elderly people between 75-90 is considered, it will be more obvious how meaningful and necessary this study is. The interviewed people live in Dağyeri (Koçığaze) and they live in culturally dense Circassian environment. Keywords: Dağyeri (Koçığaze), Circassian, Adyghe, Lullaby, Xabze.
