Macroanatomy of lymph nodes located in the head and neck region of chinchilla (chinchilla lanigera)

Although the circulatory system is generally defined as the artery-vein system, lymphatic circulation has also taken its place in the vascular system . The lymphatic system mainly plays an important role in maintaining extracellular fluid balance. In addition, it has been determined that the substances absorbed from the interstitial fluid via lymph capillaries are transported to the lymph node, where it is cleaned from cell and metabolism residues; mediates lymphocyte production and storage, antibody production, transmission of the absorbed fat from the intestines to the blood, transfer of hormones, as well as the spread of infectious and tumor metastases. The material of the study consisted of ten adult males and ten adult females chinchillas (chinchilla lanigera). To stain the lymph nodes, the animals were euthanized one week later after subcutaneous injection of 1/15 saline and green c ink. After euthanasia, it was preserved in pools containing 10% formol. As a result of the macro examinations, İt was observed that lymphocentrum parotideum was located just ventral to the caudal edge of the m. parotidoauricularis, and lymphonodi mandibulares were located at the ventral edge of the corpus mandibula in the spatium mandibula.In the neck region lymphocentrum retropharyngeum was located ventrally to the head proportion of m. cleidomastoideus and m. sternocephalicus. It was determined that lymphonodi cervicales superficiales dorsales were located just ventral to the pars cervicalis of the m.trapezius, in front of the margo cranialis of the scapula, and lymphonodi cervicales superficiales ventralis were located just in the cranial of the shoulder joint. In the macro examinations, lymphonodus buccalis and lymphocentrum cervicale profundum were not found. Key words: Chinchilla, Head and neck, Lymph node
