Siraceddin Hasırcıoğlu's thoughts about education and his place in our history of children's literature

ABSTRACTIn this work, drama for children and the characteristics of children?s drama, thequality that must exist in children?s books and political reforms period in whichchildren?s literature first appeared and the characteristics of Constitutional Periodtook place. In addition, the historical progress of children?s literature in our countryand the other men of letters who took part in this historical progress are mentioned.The aim of this work is to tell the progress of children?s literature in Turkey andto fill the gap because of insufficiency of the studies which were done about our menof letters and educators. The subject of this study Siraceddin Hasırcıoğlu is one ofthose educators, who added a lot to Turkish educational system, caused Turkishliterature gain with both his own written works and his translations in education andin the history of education and children?s literature, deserves to be studied.In order to talk about the tradition of children?s literature which has placed rightrecently in our country, firstly the people who worked hard to have this traditioncome into existence, have to be known. Because of this, other men of letters who hadsupplements in progress of children?s literature in our country are mentioned withtheir written works.In this work related Siraceddin Hasırcıoğlu, beside his life, his literarypersonality, his duties as an educator, his own written works which were gifted tochildren?s literature, his translations: fabls, articles and the literature of the childrenon the earth are placed.İbrahim Hilmi Çığıraçan, who printed and published Siraceddin?s translationworks, wrote his thoughts of praise and those are placed and mentioned with respectbecause of his supplements in progress of children?s literature.Siraceddin?s written works are translated from Ottoman Turkish to currentTurkish and are used in this work. His articles which were printed in the magazinesare interpreted.By placing his thoughts of education and relating the lamenesses of education inhis period, his foresees of educational understanding are brought to light.In the final part of this study Siraceddin?s value regarding education andchildren?s literature is stressed and Siraceddin?s importance in history of educationand children?s literature are determined and tried to make suggestions.
