The effects of institutionalization level and corporate governance practices on organizational performance of civil society organizations

Some studies have been carried out on the basis of civil society organizations; when all the literature involving civil society, non-profit, foundations, non-governmental, associations, the third sector, and non-state terms are analyzed, the number of researches appears to be quite low. In the literature concerned, the co-relations between the organizational performance of the civil society organizations and other factors are displayed; instead of its relation to institutionalization level and corporate governance practices which are very important when it comes down to an organization. In the framework of the research necessary for the understanding of just how much effect corporate governance has on the organizational performance of the civil society organizations; the transparency present between the dimensions of institutionalization level and corporate governance, practices the effective communication, the adoption of the idea that every individual is in an open state to the right of joining the management, in short, the key point of all this, is the conscience that studies can be conducted on all civil society organizations that possess the most common and accessible type of communication tools such as an internet website and an e-mail address, signs that such an organization is sensible to the society and caring towards each and every individual in that society. Based on this viewpoint, without any distinctions made so that the findings convey the current situation in Turkey, a study based on a survey app has been conducted through the internet: out of the 126,531 civil society organizations in accordance with the legislation released by the Directorate General for Relations with Civil Society and the Directorate General of Foundations through general network pages shared with the community they are acting in, the study was intended for the 6,988 civil society organizations that possess a functioning website. This equals to a participation total of 718 civil society organizations including the ones who have partly participated. As a result of the studies conducted, the data of all 287 civil society organizations that saw the survey to completion were evaluated; it was concluded that institutionalization level and corporate governance practices have quite the positive and significant effect on the performance of these nongovernmental organizations.
