The impacts of social media as a tool of political propaganda on voting behavior

In the modern world, communication is highly significant in terms of the vital role it plays in political and social life.Along with technological developments, political communication channels have also changed.The internet, which is based on mutual interaction, has taken the place of traditional media tools. The aim of this study is to analyze the effects on voting behavior, based on the methods and techniques used by political actors to reach the masses while carrying out their political propaganda.The hypothesis of the study has been tried to be explained based on the theories of "agenda setting" and "spiral of silence" in terms of the effects of the mass media on the voter behavior. In this study, depending on the studies in the literature examining the effects of social media on voter behavior, descriptive analysis was used as a data analysis technique in qualitative research.In this review, as a result of the analysis made on the sample case of using Twitter by the candidates in the 24 June 2018 Presidential Election, it has been observed that the impact of social media is much higher than expected in line with the findings of the research. In terms of social media use, it has been concluded that the expressions of the candidates, nominately the concepts that they highlight in creating their agenda, can change the interaction in the election.In the use of Twitter by Presidential Candidates; the social media strategy of each candidate was analyzed comparatively by analyzing the number of followers, the increase in the number of followers and the content analysis.
