Özet (EN)

Objective: The aim of our study is to compare plasma Total Antioxidant Level (TAS), Total Oxidant Level (TOS), Oxidative Stress Index (OSI), Ischemia Modified Albumin (IMA), Albumin and Interleukin-18 (IL-18) levels with healthy controls and to investigate their relationship with disease severity and functionality in schizophrenia patients who do not receive treatment and receive regular treatment for at least 1 year. Materials and Methods: He/She was diagnosed with schizophrenia according to DSM-5 diagnostic criteria between the ages of 18-65, who applied to the Dicle University Medical Faculty Hospital Psychiatry Department between 01.04.2022 and 01.04.2023; 41 patients who did not receive any treatment or did not receive treatment for at least 1 month, 50 patients who received regular treatment for at least 1 year and were in remission, and 50 healthy volunteer participants were included. A total of three groups were created. Group 1: 41 schizophrenic patients who did not receive any treatment or did not receive treatment for at least 1 month, Group 2: 50 patients with schizophrenia who have received regular treatment for at least 1 year and are in remission, Group 3: 50 healthy volunteer participants (control group) matched for age, gender and education level were included in the study. Sociodemographic data form for all participants; Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS), Clinical Global Impression Scale (CGI) and Sheehan Disability Scale were applied to individuals in the patient group.Venous blood samples were collected from the participants after at least 12 hours of fasting. It was studied using a commercial kit in an autoanalyzer in the laboratory of Dicle University Faculty of Medicine, Biochemistry Department using the IMA, TOS, TAS EREL method. Albumin and IL-18 levels were studied in the laboratory of Dicle University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Biochemistry, using the ELISA method using a commercial kit. IBM SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences) 21.0 for windows statistical package program was used for the statistical evaluation of our data. Results: The main finding of our study; One of the oxidative stress parameters, IMA, is significantly higher in the untreated group than in the treated group and the control group. Another important finding is that IL-18 was significantly lower in the untreated group than in the control group. Conclusion: The data we obtained in our study; proves that oxidative stress increases in schizophrenia patients and that IMA, one of the oxidative stress parameters, may have a place in the pathogenesis of schizophrenia. KEYWORDS: Schizophrenia, Oxidative Stress, IMA, TOS, TAS, OSI, IL-18
