Investigation of the relationship between disease management, recovery and hopelessness levels in patients diagnosed with schizophrenia who have been treated as inpatients and who have been decided to be discharged

Objective: This study has been inpatient treatment and has been done to determine the relationship between disease management, recovery and hopelessness levels in patients with schizophrenia planned to be discharged. Method: Research, which is the descriptive relational type from quantitative research methods, was conducted between April 2021 and June 2022 with individuals diagnosed with schizophrenia planned to be discharged in Ankara City Hospital psychiatric clinics. The research sample has created 158 patients who meet the criteria included in the study. The data for the research were obtained through face-to-face interviews with individuals using the personal information form, Disease Management and Recovery Scale, Beck Despair Scale. Data obtained as a result of the research were analyzed using IBM SPSS for Windows 25.0 program. Results: Gender, educational status, working status, social security, place of residence, regular drug use, time diagnosed, disease management of additional discomfort, It has been determined to make a significant difference between levels of recovery and hope (p<0.05). Participants' Disease Management and Recovery Scale average score is 32.85±8.14, Beck's Despair Scale score average is 5.54 ±4.61'. Disease Management has been found to have a significant, negative-side, moderate relationship between the Healing Scale and Beck Despair Scales (r=-0.522, p<0.05). Conclusion: The results of this research are that situations such as working people, being at higher education level, using regular medicines, early diagnosis increase disease management, recovery and hope in individuals, as well as disease management of people, It has shown that levels of hope increase as recovery situations develop. Accordingly, it is recommended to develop disease management, recovery and hope-increasing intervention programs, and to expand the scope of the study by applying it in wider groups and different cultures.
