Abstract (EN)

This thesis was carried out between November 2022 and September 2023 in order to investigate the natural dye plants used in the past and present in Sındırgı (Balıkesir) Yağcıbedir carpets, which plant species are used in the wood materials used in weaving and traditional dyeing methods. Villages dealing with carpet weaving in the past and present in the Sındırgı region have been determined. Necessary interviews were made with people who were interested in carpet weaving in the center of Sındırgı and five villages. The necessary information about the plants used in natural dyeing, natural dyeing methods and wood materials used in weaving were recorded from the resource persons. Scientific identification of usable plants collected from the center and villages of the study area was carried out in Düzce University Biology Department Botanical Research Laboratory and DUOF Herbarium. 6 plant species Brassicaceae, Polygonaceae, Rubiaceae Juglandaceae, Fagaceae, Fabaceae used to give their main colors to Sındırgı (Balıkesir) Yağcıbedir carpets, Cistaceae, Lamiaceae, Datiscaceae, Salicaceae, Polygonaceae of 6 plant species used for mordanting, 13 plant species of wood materials used for weaving. It has been concluded that these plant species are plant species belonging to the families Pinaceae, Fagaceae, Anacardiaceae, Rosaceae, Ulmaceae, Oleaceae Cornaceae, Platanaceae, Juglandaceae and Salicaceae and that one of the plant species used is not of Anatolian origin but other plant species spread in Turkey.
